"""GODAVARI MAHAPUSHKARAM"""

Pushkaram is celebrated at shrines, along the banks of 12 major, sacred rivers in India. Worship of the rivers takes place once in every 12 years, known as the Pushkaram.  Each river is bounded by a Zodiac sign and, the pushkara of the river is based on the sign, the planet Jupiter (Bruhaspathi) is in, at that time.

Pushkaram lasts as long as the Bruhaspathi remains in the corresponding zodiac sign, which lasts for one year. Most auspicious days for the pushkara snaanam and pinda pradaanam, are the first 12 days (Aadi pushkaram) , when the bhruhaspathi enters the zodiac sign, and the last 12 days (Anthya pushkaram) while the planet exits the zodiac sign. It draws in most of the crowd during this period.

Maha pushkaram is the one that befalls every 12 regular pushkaras, which means, for every 144 years!

GODAVARI MATHA AT PUSHKAR GHAT

Godavari Maha Pushkaram 2015

Godavari pushkaram takes place when Bruhaspathi enters the simha rasi(Leo) . This time, it is not an ordinary pushkaram. It is the Maha Pushkaram, that happens once in 144 years. Next Maha Pushkaram will occur again in 2159!

During the pushkar season, the river is overwhelmed with the luster of deities, and becomes pure. So, our ancient gurus asked us to take bath,

by uttering this slokam. Many people bath in the river and emerge out better, with all the sins washed off .

Many ask a question, why pushkaram festival? The reason is, while going to pushkar bath we develop awareness, selfishness purged, we get accustomed to pray to god.
When one bathes in the river, during this period of time, it's benefits are legion. Firstly, the  body becomes clean. Our ancestors often preach that the Devatas dwell in the rivers during the pushkaram, helping people attain virtues, and hence, salvation (Moksha). All the three and half billion teerthas reach this place. All these benefit the bathers. A simple bath all by itself brings peace and calm to the mind. The simple act of immersing in the river flow makes our mind stress-free and soul, pure.

The world is of a Multipower form, one of the powers being water. The purest water is also referred to as pushkaram." POSHAYETHITHI PUSHKARAHA" , which means it helps us to live, by providing water.

Who is Pushkar?

Ages ago, Maharshi Thundilya used to serve the lord parameswara, with utter devotion. The lord was pleased and with his blessings, the maharshi became a king to 3 billion 58 lac rivers and was named  "pushkara" . He was made the Jala Murthy, one of the astha murthis.

This Maha Pushkaram was a pretty nice experience. Though rush, this will remain a remarkably siginficant episode in my life. It was ecstatic. The pushkara snaanam, the Haarati (all 12 types of them) , and the Prasaadam nonetheless, were all so pious. And, I already feel pure and sin-free.
I thank the Government for the really-well-organized festival.

HD-1 "ACONITE (Aconitum Napellus)"

Aconite is one of the greatest and most often used remedies in Homoeopathy. Febrigenic(fever producing) properties associated with restlessness and fever, full hard pulse, hot and dry skin, and coated tongue, with thirst, headache and sleeplessness, were seen on healthy persons by proving this drug.

Aconite is a remedy which acts antiphlogistically(Anything which reduces inflammation) in the beginning of all congestions and inflammations and antipyretically in the early stages of many fevers with an acute onset. There is scarcely any acute disease in which it is not indicated. The characteristics are full hard rapid pulse with hot dry skin, thirst for cold water; scanty high colored urine, anxiety, fear and restlessness.

Aconite is good for the early stages of most ailments brought on by exposure to dry cold air and sudden suppression of perspiration, e.g hoarseness of voice, cough, bronchitis, diarrhoea.

The type of fevers for which Aconite is indicated is called athenic or synochal fevers. i.e fevers in which the patient does not feel weakness or asthenia.

In injuries by accidents as a fall from a tree, blows by blunt instruments etc., the treatment is better to begun with 2 doses of Aconite 3x at intervals of 10 minutes. This will counteract the shock and the evil effect of the fright, and allay the excitement and the turbulent state of mind, this paving the way for the better action of Arnica. Aconite is almost a specific in the congestive forms of facial neuralgia. it is a comforting remedy for tootache.

It is used in dry cough and affections marked by pain with aggravation of most symptoms towards evening.

DOSE: use 2 or 3 pills ,or 1 or 2 drops of 3x, 6x, 3c or 30 c potency(power or efficacy) every 10 or 15 minutes for 1 or 2 hours, and then discontinue its use. If further indicated, use 2 or 3 pills or 1 or 2 drops of the 30th potency every 3 or 4 hours, but don't use Aconite further, if no relief of symptoms is noted within the first 24 hours of its use. In case of children, we generally give only one pill for a dose, but does not matter much whether we give even more. A drop of tincture of 3x, 6x, 3c or 30 c can be dissolved in an ounce of pure water and a teaspoon of it can be used.

Raga Sangnya

Carnatic Music is known as the most prominent form of music. Music muses into itself, various art forms, poetry, dance, drama, what not!. Known unanimously as the mother of all art forms, Music is a bliss to the appreciating ear. It is immense knowledge to the alert mind and divine wisdom to the stable soul. It is health and happiness to the lively body and a lesson to lead a beautiful life. It is the easiest and the most efficient way to salvation, for, most of the compositions are the glorious praises of the lord almighty, with such admiration, gratitude, devotion and surrender.

The Orientation

The 12 chakras are further divided into two sub-cycles, first half for Suddha Madhyama raagas and the next, for Prati Madhyama raagas. There's a similarity in the arrangement of raagas in within the cycle, and between the cycles as well.
As there are 7 swaras (sapta swaras) , there are 12 swara sthAnAs (variations in swaras).
Further, it can be rather told as 16 swara sthAnAs in total ( shodaSa swara sthAnAs ) than dwAdaSa swara sthAnAs. This takes into consideration variations of ri, ga, da and ni, where the frequency of ri3 is the same as that of ga1 and da3 is the same as the ni1.

1. sa -                       1)  shadjamam

2. ri  - rishabham -   2)  Suddha rishabham              (r1)
                                 3)  chatuSruti rishabham         (r2)
                                 4)  shatSruti rishabham           (r3)

3. ga - gAndhAram-5)   Suddha gAndhAram          (g1)
                                 6)  sAdhAraNa gAndhAram   (g2)
                                 7)  antara gAndhAram            (g3)

4. ma- madhyamam-8)  Suddha madhyamam         (m1)
                                 9)  prati madhyamam              (m2)

5. pa -                       10) panchamam

6. da-  daivatam -     11)Suddha daivatam               (d1)
                                 12)chatuSruti daivatam           (d2)
                                 13)shatSruti daivatam             (d3)

7. ni- nishAdam-     14) Suddha nishAdam              (n1)
                                 15) kaiSika nishAdam             (n2)
                                 16) kAkali nishAdam              (n3)

The invariable swaras, sa and pa are called the Prakruti swarAs. These remain constant no matter what. There can be janya ragas that do not contain sa or pa as well.

KA TA PA YAdi sutra

When the swara SthAnAs in the rAga are clear, from the above cycle, one can name the mElakarta rAga.  For example, a Raga with the scale :
sa r2 ga2 ma1 pa da2 ni2 sa.  -  sa. ni2 da2 pa ma1 ga2 ri2 sa can be easily identified as SankarAbharaNam from the number 29, as in the above cycle illustration. ( the mUrchana or the scale is the idea about the Raga, ArOhaNa-avarOhaNa being the two parts in it, with a tAra shadjamam (sa.) included in it.)

The reverse of this phenomenon is also possible. In case, the rAga is totally new to you and you wish to know what is being rendered, and someone names it rAmapriya, you can calculate the mElakarta number, and thus understand the swara sthAnAs. Some rAgAs like SankarAbharaNam, kaLyANi and todi have prefixes, they're rather called dhIraSankarAbharaNam, mEchakaLyANi and hanumattOdi.

The sanskrit alphabet are divided firmly into 4 groups or vargAs  under this formula.
1.ka varg  क
2.Ta varg  ट
3. pa varg प
4. ya varg य

The letter "rA" has got the number 2, and "ma", 5.  It's 25!  Now, the number ought to be reversed, which turns out to be 52. Is that right? Let's go up and check.

Now, try for some other rAga of your choice. Fun, ain't it?

Now, this is all about the identification of mElakartAs. The rAga being rendered need not be necessarily a mElakarta, it can as well be a janya rAga. We will discuss janya rAgAs in yet another post. :D
