Govindavadi Agaram- Sri Dakshinamurthy Temple

Govindavadi Agaram is a small village about 18 kms from kancheepuram. Govinda swamy perumal along with his family were tutored the vedas by Dakshinamoorthy at this  temple hence the name.

Devotees visit the temple in large number on Thursdays,  to overcome obstacles posed by planet Jupiter( Guru Graha), so this temple is also known as Gurusthalam temple.

Temple Entrance

The temple is about 2000 years old and, was  visited by Bhagavan Sri adi sankaraacharya and sri kanchi kamakoti peetthadhipathi, sri chandrasekharendra swamyigal.

Lord Dakshinamoorthy, facing south, is  seated on  panchasan peetham, held by the  koorma, eight gajas, simhas, five nagas, dieties of eight directions. The banayan tree is not present because darshan to Lord Vishnu was privately given  by Lord Dakshnimoorthy, as Lord graces with an eye on forehead and crescent moon as Lord Shiva himself.

There are shrines of lord Kailasanadhar, Goddess Akhilandeshwari, lord vinayagar , Subhramanya swamigal, kalabhairavar, the navagrahas and the  perumal.
