Govindavadi Agaram- Sri Dakshinamurthy Temple

Govindavadi Agaram is a small village about 18 kms from kancheepuram. Govinda swamy perumal along with his family were tutored the vedas by Dakshinamoorthy at this  temple hence the name.

Devotees visit the temple in large number on Thursdays,  to overcome obstacles posed by planet Jupiter( Guru Graha), so this temple is also known as Gurusthalam temple.

Temple Entrance

The temple is about 2000 years old and, was  visited by Bhagavan Sri adi sankaraacharya and sri kanchi kamakoti peetthadhipathi, sri chandrasekharendra swamyigal.

Lord Dakshinamoorthy, facing south, is  seated on  panchasan peetham, held by the  koorma, eight gajas, simhas, five nagas, dieties of eight directions. The banayan tree is not present because darshan to Lord Vishnu was privately given  by Lord Dakshnimoorthy, as Lord graces with an eye on forehead and crescent moon as Lord Shiva himself.

There are shrines of lord Kailasanadhar, Goddess Akhilandeshwari, lord vinayagar , Subhramanya swamigal, kalabhairavar, the navagrahas and the  perumal.

KALAVAI-Sri Kanchi Kama Koti Peetam

Kalavai, also called as temple town, is a village in Arcot district,Tamil Nadu, situated 46 kms from vellore. It has a great historic significance.

Sankara mattham is one of the most significant places in kalavai, where the Adhistanams of  the 66th( Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswathi) and the 67th( Sri  MahaDevendra Saraswathi) Gurus of kanchi mutt were endured.  Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswathi was inducted the 68th Guru of Sri Kanchi KamaKoti peetam in kalavai.

We visited the mattham on a sravana suddha padyami, when the Gayatri homam was being conducted. We had the darshan of the brindavans with carvings of Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswathi on the left and  Sri Mahadevendra Saraswathi on the right.  Only men with dhothis and women with sarees are allowed inside  the shrine.  Vibhoodhi prasadamn was given to the devotees . We were blessed with a great opportunity to witness the Gayatri homam. The smoke that emanates from the homam removes the obstacles and confers blessings, along with tejas and ojas.

The vicinity was very pleasant and spiritual, with the power of sonorous recital of vedas by the students from the veda paatthashala, radiating around the place.
